New Mercedes-AMG SL (2021) the roadster in pictures

Mercedes unveils new shots of the future SL. Developed by AMG, the eighth generation of the roadster will return to a 2 + 2 configuration and a canvas top.

On March 12, 1952, Mercedes was about to unveil its new racing sports car: the 300 SL . 69 years later, the eighth generation of the model is now preparing to land on our roads . The new SL has indeed entered the home stretch of its development .

The model is currently being tested in the Swedish winter cold , still dressed in thick camouflage.

Canvas hood and 2 + 2 configuration

If we already knew that the next SL would return to its sporting roots by being developed by AMG , these pictures above all confirm that the roadster, after two generations of a hard roof, will return to a canvas soft top .

Mercedes also tells us that it will again be configured in 2 + 2 , that is to say with two small seats in the rear.

On the technical side, there is little information but the manufacturer already promises the presence of 4MATIC + all-wheel drive , which will be a great first for the SL.

Up to 800 hp under the hood of the new SL?

The model should also be largely inspired by the AMG GT . In particular, it could share its platform and borrow its V8 4.0 biturbo engine. An in-line six-cylinder could also be offered at the entry level while a hybrid version could also be part of the top-of-the-range version SL 73 AMG. For the latter, a power of about 800 horsepower is even mentioned!

The new Mercedes-AMG SL will soon undergo a final refinement on the demanding northern loop of the Nürburgring circuit in Germany. Its presentation is scheduled for later this year.

Hyundai Tucson (2021): the N Line version on the way

Hyundai Tucson (2021) the N Line version on the way

The SUV will have a more aggressive look and slightly firmer suspensions.

These high-end finishes are very fashionable nowadays, which take the look of sports versions, but not their performance: at Mercedes they are the AMG Line, at Peugeot the GT Line and at Renault the RS Line. As you can see, by adding the letters of the sports division and “Line”, a sporty finish is quickly found.

And Hyundai is not lagging behind since the brand will soon launch its Tucson … N Line. We therefore discover a slightly reworked body with a more aggressive front bumper, a new rocker panel and a diffuser at the rear. A more pronounced spoiler also makes its appearance, as does a double exhaust outlet. Under the now painted body-colored fenders, new 19-inch two-tone rims appear.

Sportier interior

Inside, the “sporting” changes continue. The seats are now half Alcantara, half leather, with contrasting red stitching, which can be found throughout the cabin. The gear lever knob is specific and the car gains a new sports steering wheel.

A slightly modified damping

But the pleasure is not only for the eyes since the ECS adaptive suspension system has been modified for a slightly sportier behavior. However, this update is only available for light hybrid (48V) engines.

On the price side, Hyundai has not yet revealed anything but expect to see this Tucson N Line settle above the Executive finish, which starts at € 41,500. In return, the N Line includes many standard equipment.

The Hyundai Tucson N Line will be available in spring 2021 for thermal versions, while hybrids will arrive later this summer.

Hennessey Venom F5 (2021) to go to the Nürburgring

Hennessey Venom F5 (2021) to go to the Nürburgring

Hennessey plans to test the Venom F5 at the Nürburgring. The supercar could break a record there.

Hennessey pointed out: his newly introduced Venom F5 has the potential to exceed 500 km / h, but its performance isn’t limited to the straights. To make sure of this before delivering the first owners of the supercar, the American manufacturer and preparer intends to conduct tests on various international circuits including the famous Nordschleife (north loop) of the Nürburgring.

It was John Hennessey, founder and boss of the brand, who revealed it to YouTuber Mr JWW on video . “We are going to test it on the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring, not to set a record there but we feel it is very important to confirm, for our customers, that the intention behind this car has changed between 2017 (year of presentation of the concept focused on top speed, Editor’s note) and now, “he explained.

A record yet within reach

John Hennessey may well exclude any record attempt from his speech, it remains very likely that this position will change once there. The best lap time for a production car on the track has recently been held by the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series with a time of 6’48 “047. The German has a power of 730hp for a curb weight of about 1.600kg.

The Venom F5 is a whole different animal with a mid-rear twin-turbo 1.842hp V8 and an advertised dry weight of 1.360kg. She intends to play in the yard of Bugatti and other Koenigsegg productions , which have not lent themselves to the yet popular game of ‘Ring records in recent years. The performance of the American on “Green Hell” will therefore deserve to be followed with attention.

Video: Mercedes teases Project One with Lewis Hamilton, announces “E-Performance”

Mercedes teases project one

Mercedes-AMG continues to communicate around its future supercar, and presents the arrival of an “E-Performance” label.

The wait continues. After unveiling the AMG Project One supercar at the Motor Show in 2016, Mercedes made us wait for many years … But the car, whose technology is directly derived from Formula 1, is back on the scene. with the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton .

The video shows him getting out of his car, after a Grand Prix. After touring the media and saluting his mechanics, Lewis Hamilton climbs into the Project One, decorated for the occasion, and leaves the pits in 100% electric mode. Then he activates the Race + mode, the opportunity for us to discover all of the supercar’s active aero.

But more than yet another teaser for Project One, this video announces two things. First, the supercar is entering its final phase of development, with help from Hamilton. It is expected to be unveiled in 2021.

“E-Performance”, the electrification of AMG

Second, Mercedes-AMG announces the arrival of a new label, “E-Performance”. This label marks the arrival of electrification (whether in hybrid or even, perhaps, in 100% electric) at the Mercedes house preparer. AMG will then take the opportunity to bring its image closer to F1, to highlight this link with the performance of hybrid technologies.

The red of the Project One livery will then become part of the visual identity of the AMG E-Performance cars. And if the brand and its F1 team are going to get closer, can we then wait for Mercedes’ livery in F1 to become redder in turn? Answer at the beginning of March for the winter testing of F1, in Barcelona.
