New Peugeot 308 (2021): imagined as a GTI version

New Peugeot 308 (2021) imagined as a GTI version

Here is what the new Peugeot 308 could have looked like in GTI version if the lion brand had not abandoned its sporting emblem in favor of the PSE badge.

The new Peugeot 308 barely unveiled, we already know that a 100% electric version will see the light of day, but most likely not before 2023.

On the other hand, at this stage, a sports version PSE is more than uncertain. One thing is certain: there will be no new 308 GTI, Peugeot having abandoned its famous sporting crest. This does not prevent some from dreaming …

An independent designer by the name of Kléber Silva has indeed imagined what the new 308 GTI could have looked like. In the image, we thus discover the compact dressed in the straight cut, the famous and unique two-tone color, here available in blue and black.

Exit the GTI, place a PSE

Since 1983, the GTi badge has almost always been part of the catalog of the Sochalian brand , but with the arrival of new CO2 standards that are always more restrictive, Peugeot must now review its plans in terms of sportiness.

As a result, when it comes to vitaminized lionesses, the Peugeot Sport Engineered name now prevails. This new coat of arms is intended for the fiercest models in the catalog. If the first of them, the 508 PSE, manages to convince customers, it is likely that the French brand will decide to decline other models in its range. However, it remains to be seen whether the necessary hybridization will not weigh down the vehicle and make the project more complex to develop. To be continued…

Peugeot: GTi, it’s over!

peugeot gti its over

With the cessation of production of the 308 GTi, the Peugeot GTi lineage died out.

This time it’s done, Peugeot produced its last 308 GTi and therefore its ultimate GTi, putting an end to the history of a sporting emblem present in the range almost uninterrupted since 1983 since, even when this name was absent of the French offer, it was used abroad.

While the current 308 is in its final months, a more severe environmental standard will have to be met by new vehicles from January 1, and manufacturers must quickly reduce the average CO2 emissions of their ranges to avoid fines, the “Grand Tourisme injection” models no longer have their place in the lion brand.

Goodbye GTi, hello PSE

Peugeot puts an end to the GTi but does not intend to stop producing sports models for all that. The future will pass through electrified vehicles bearing the PSE badge (Peugeot Sport Egineered) like the new 508 PSE plug-in hybrid with 360 hp.

A PSE hybrid version of the next Peugeot 308 could therefore see the light of day, while insistent corridor noise announces a 100% electric sports variant of the new 208 , which could therefore be called e-208 PSE. However, for purely marketing reasons, it is not impossible for PSE models to be GTi badged abroad. After all, Porsche does offer a Taycan Turbo without a heat engine.
