Opel unveils the first photos and information on the new and sixth generation of Astra, whose presentation is expected later this summer.
After having renewed its small Corsa in 2019, Opel is tackling another of its emblematic models: the Astra . The new and sixth generation of the compact will be unveiled in the summer. In the meantime, the German manufacturer has already unveiled the first images .
The face of the new Opel Mokka
First observation, the new Astra will display a whole new look . It will include the new face of the brand , the Opel Vizor, inaugurated on the recent Mokka . At the front, we will find ultrathin IntelliLux LED headlamps while at the rear the name of the model will now be located in the center of the tailgate. Always a design issue, the car should also adopt a long hood, a large glass surface and a roof spoiler. The lines will also be tighter for a more dynamic look.
A high tech interior
The interior will be refined and always modeled on that of the new Mokka. Opel is thus announcing a “new generation Pure Panel digital dashboard, with its fully glazed surfaces”. In other words, the Astra will gain a large digital panel consisting of two screens, one for the instrument cluster and the other for the infotainment system. The physical controls will be reduced to a minimum here to give pride of place to the touchscreen. A new steering wheel and front seats “with exceptional ergonomics” will also be part of the game.
Original PSA engines
Finally, on the technical side, this Opel Astra sixth of the name will be the cousin of the new Peugeot 308 . Like the lioness, it will be based on the EMP2 platform of the Stellantis group, which will allow it to become the first electrified Astra. In addition to the traditional original PSA petrol units (110 and 130 hp?), It should indeed carry the same plug-in hybrid engines as the 308 , whose powers are announced at 180 and 225 hp.
Designed and manufactured in Rüsselsheim, Germany, the new Opel Astra will be available as a five-door sedan and Sports Tourer station wagon .
