Now a little alone in the mini-city segment, Toyota will soon present the Aygo X. This is what we already know about the mini-crossover!
The mini-city car segment is in the middle of a storm. Many brands have abandoned it, the fault of exponential development costs brought about by the various anti-emissions regulations. Others have chosen to switch to 100% electric , such as the Fiat 500 , or the future Renault 5 electric , for example.
This poses a problem for Toyota: the Japanese giant had developed the current generation of the Aygo with the PSA group (now Stellantis). It then shared the Citroën C1 and Peugeot 108 platform. But these two brands will not follow up on their city cars. Suddenly, Toyota finds itself alone in having to develop its city car.
For this future Toyota Aygo developed independently, the manufacturer was therefore able to overcome the constraints of a common platform . And the Aygo should therefore move up a gear! Toyota, after unveiling a very successful concept called Aygo X prologue , has confirmed the imminent arrival of the production model, logically named Aygo X .
The Toyota Yaris platform
As its name suggests, this future city car will take the form of a mini-crossover . On the concept “prologue”, there are nevertheless reminders to the current generation , especially at the level of the rear window which retains its particular shape. On the other hand, the famous light signature in “X” at the front should disappear.
The Toyota Aygo X will adopt the internal TNGA-B platform , that of the new Yaris and Yaris Cross . We will know more about the technical details of this future mini-city car, which should remain a pure essence, during the presentation of the model.
